Agriculture In Urban Areas…

India mainly is an agro based country where the main source of national income is Agriculture.
But due to the so called modern urbanization has swallowed large amounts of fertile lands.
Let’s not blame the process of urbanization alone, as we also play an integral part of this degradation of the fertile lands. The people always prefer buying lands at cheap rates away from the city and later sell them up at higher rates when the city starts to develop around it. This land therefore lies barren and unused during this period which rather affects our PCI(per capita income).
Are there any steps that can be taken as such to help curb this situation?
Yes we can, as an organization or as a single person each and everyone can. But in unity lies strength is what we all believe in, but it won’t help until and unless an initiative is taken at the individual level because governments don’t function until we pressurize them which we can relate to as a young teenager who is capable of scoring but is distracted and the parents pressurize him too much.
It’s too difficult to survive nowadays without a high salary but think of the poor farmers how do they manage to survive? Sometimes droughts and other calamities destroy what they have worked hard for and sowed the seeds. The new government should take some strict and appropriate measures to  have a solution to this problem which includes ‘ANTI CORRUPTION MEASURES’ initially.
Now you must be thinking Why did I mention  ministers?
Not all but majority of them are the main culprits of this situation of agricultural sector in India. These people support the large and rich landlords which have to employ small and petty workers and daily wage laborers on their field.  These poor people take small amounts of loans and fall into debt when they are not able to repay them and eventually commit suicide due to the torture these landlords give them.
If agriculture is taken up in Urban areas it has another major  advantage the people can get the most basic amenities that they never used to get in rural areas and the urban households can also buy grains and other agro products at a comparatively lower rate. But the accommodation of the  rural family will be a major issue.
Can banking sector help?
Yes it certainly can. It can provide small amounts of loans at petty interest which the farmers can pay back sooner or later. There should be special schemes made available to the agricultural sector as such there are some great examples like the Grameen  Bank of Bangladesh.
At the final stages the city planning done by various city corporations should be done in such a way as such to support the development of Urban Agricultural Areas and the government also plays a vital role.
One such case study includes the building of Suvarna Soudha on acres full of fertile land near Belagavi, Karnataka. Such practices must be stopped in order to develop our agricultural system and bring them into  Urban areas.
So, let’s come together and work for a cause.
